I. Signal fire
a. Ralph
i. Piggy did it to cheer Ralph up
ii. Hope, and faith in being rescued, symbolises civilization
b. Jack
i. Leaves Ralphs tribe and forms his own
ii. Some of Ralph’s followers move to Jack’s
II. Jack’s tribal fire
a. Ralph
i. is tempted to go to feast jack invites him and Piggy to
ii. most of Ralph’s followers fall to Jack’s tribe
b. Jack
i. keep his tribe warm
ii. cook pig for feast
III. Fire to push Ralph out of the woods
a. Ralph
i. falls asleep in thicket and jack has his followers try to get him out
ii. whenever they fail, they set the woods on fire in order to smoke him out
b. Jack
i. tortures Eric and Sam in order to get them to tell him where Ralph is hiding
ii. sets woods on fire to smoke Ralph out of the woods, but ends up backfiring and signaling naval officer to find them
